LITEWAVE

K-Lite's LITEWAVE
"Your Ultimate New Wave Archive"

LITEWAVE which was also known as "Your Ultimate New Wave Archive" was the NEW WAVE radio program of 103.5 K-Lite here in MANILA which ran from August 1999 to November 2006. This radio show was broadcast every Saturdays 9pm to 12 midnight. Though, there were some schedule changes it still remain on it's original timeslot. This was conceptualized by none other than Mr. Adel Gabot aka. "Little David" early 1999. In 1998 K-Lite has this radio show entitled "Faster Than Lite" that played Fast Beat, Hard Music which is not usually on the regular playlist of their theme "Right Kind Of Lite" hosted by Henry Bolo aka. "THE BLADE". Hmmmp!! Now you know where his DJ name came from. Then noticing the playlist, there were a lot of New Wave Songs played during the shift so by 1999 management see to it that there should be a seperate radio show for New Wave.......Thus, LITEWAVE was born!! Then "Faster Than Lite" became more on the ROCK Genre side. I still remember the radio commercial of LITEWAVE with the voice of Little David back then. I really love that LITEWAVE radio plug especially Little David's lines that goes "NEW WAVE as the Musical Genre that rocked an entire generation". Hmmmp!! I'm with that generation....GENERATION X? X-RATED ba? He He He!!

This great NEW WAVE show was hosted by Ron Poblete aka "DJ RON SOUTH". Well, some people says that he looks like "Mikey Arroyo" the son of current Philippine president. Hmmmp!! Showbiz na showbiz ba? Ooops!! I may say Politics na Politics ah. He He He!! I've known RON back in 1997 when he and DJ Jinji was still hosting an evening K-Lite talk show entitled "TALK BACK". LITEWAVE became one of MANILA's sought after NEW WAVE radio show going into the Millenium and beyond. The show definitely showcased Music from the NEW WAVE Genre played by WXB102, Power 105 DZBM-FM, and NU107 during those times. That's not all!! It also introduced New Wave Bands and Songs which were missed out by this three New Wave Radio Stations back then and gave the PINOY WAVERS more access on those songs that were never played here in MANILA back in the 80s like music from THE LIGHT, RED GUITARS, THIS FINAL FRAME, DESERT WOLVES and many more. A special treat indeed!! I'm a great follower and listener of LITEWAVE and was lucky to have been given a chance by RON to be part of the show in a way. I was able to visit the show five times wayback 2003-2004 and shared some of my stuffs. I also had a chance to meet the "LITEWAVE BOYS" namely Ferdie, Norly, Olan and the two Gerrys. RON refer to them as "The Usual Suspects". They are all great collectors too like me. These guys have also contributed a lot on LITEWAVE's Playlist which was really massive and intense. And who would not forget LITEWAVE's intense rivalry with NU 107's New Wave Radio Show "CLUB RETRO". My opinion on this? Differences? Controversies? NaaaaH!! I just don't want to place a negative force here in my Blogpost because I like both shows. I was also able to share and revive on-air some of the songs which weren't anymore played on Manila's New Wave Radio back then like music from LULU KISS ME DEAD, KISSING THE PINK, BRADFORD, THE GAME. FZ13 just to name a few. I also revived the music of Pinoy Bands RP and JUKEBOX on their playlist.

LITEWAVE has also a special portion called "WHEN THEY HAD 15" wherein RON SOUTH features 15 minutes of Fame of a specific New Wave Band. This means RON would be playing only songs from the featured band and have some trivia about them which will run for only 15 minutes. On my Five LITEWAVE visits I was able to share 3 EPISODES namely : LICK THE TINS, DEAR ENEMY, and the 1985 LIVE AID CONCERT. Thanks also to my good friend JACK J. who is now residing in CANADA who was with me on my 3rd LITEWAVE visit for compiling the LIVE AID CONCERT for me back in 2004 so that I could share it on the show. This portion was not regulary done throughout the Radio Show Existence and was scrapped by 2005.

LITEWAVE SESSIONS
By 2004, LITEWAVE started featuring Pinoy Bands on the show who was into the New Wave Genre who played on the booth. The first ever Pinoy Band who guested the show and played LIVE was none other than ORANGE AND LEMONS. YUP!! This was way before they really made it big in the Philippine Music Scene. Of course, this was also before their controversial sound-alike CARE song "PINOY AKO" who they themselves denied first in public that it was copied from CARE's classic New Wave Song "CHANDELIERS". Well, good thing they retracted their denial. At first there was no title for this Litewave portion so I suggested to Ferdie to ask RON if it's ok to title the portion as LITEWAVE SESSIONS.....Well, I guess RON like my suggestion because it was already used on the next time Pinoy Bands performed Live in the show. Thus...."LITEWAVE SESSIONS" was born!! CAFFEINE was the second Pinoy Band who guested and played Live on LITEWAVE. Gizelle Roque(Miss G. as I call her) was also a frequent LITEWAVE visitor and was very instrumental in bringing Pinoy Bands/Artists over the show to play Live. Some of the bands were "THE LATE ISABEL", "DOMINION", "NONO aka. NAMES ARE FOR TOMBSTONES", and Pinoy Smiths Cover Band "DEAD POP STARS".

LIGHTWAVE SESSIONS
Pinoy Bands:

ORANGE AND LEMONS

CAFFEINE

THE LATE ISABEL

DOMINION

DEAD POP STARS

NONO aka. NAMES ARE FOR TOMBSTONES

THE DAWN and ORANGE AND LEMONS were both invited on LITEWAVE's 6th year anniversary to perform which was also broadcast Live on 103.5 K-Lite and this was held at EASTWOOD LIBIS. The Dawn played their classic 80s compositions like "ENVELOPED IDEAS" and some classic New Wave Foreign tunes like A FLOCK OF SEAGULL's "I RAN". ORANGE AND LEMONS al so played their own compositions and some CARE and THE SMITHS cover as well.

Other highlights of LITEWAVE was when SEXY ACTRESS ROSANNA ROCES visited the booth and was interviewed by RON SOUTH about New Wave and her TOP 5 NEW WAVE SONGS. Check out my blogpost on this:
http://docmuzic.blogspot.com/2008/01/rosanna-roces-top-5-new-wave-songs.html

Another Famous LITEWAVE guest was FRA LIPPO LIPPI's Per Oystein Sorensen back in 2006 promoting their concert.Rune Kristoffersen was not with PER when FRA LIPPO LIPPI performed Live In Manila last MAY 2006.

DJ RON SOUTH was also able to do an Interview with CHINA CRISIS when the band visited and performed LIVE IN MANILA back in December 2002. His recorded interview was also broadcast on LITEWAVE since the band wasn't able to visit the show.

Dennis Ramos, the drummer of Legendary Pinoy 80s band UNDER BLUE SKIES also guested the show courtesy of Miss G. The band had a rare reunion interview for the show.

DJ HILARY ISAAC also hosted LITEWAVE for a while back in 2005

Hmmmp!! Definitely a Radio Show I do missed right now bacause by November 2006 this great Manila New Wave Radio show bid farewell to their avid listeners. I just wanna thank DJ RON SOUTH for accomodating me on the show and of course for the music and memories of the show. SALAMAT SIR!!

THANKS LITEWAVE!!

103.5 K-Lite

Blogpost # 103.5

Well for my Blogpost#103 I would like to pay tribute to one of Manila's great radio station..... 103.5 K-Lite(DWKX-FM) was the radio station that has the radio tag "The Right Kind Of Lite" owned and operated by Advanced Media Broadcasting System. This station started back in 1995 and was one of the radio stations that has impressed me a lot in terms of their playlist back then. I was also lucky to be able to tune in to their Test Broadcast back in 1995. Great playlist indeed with a variety of Musical Genres with the best mix of "The Right Kind Of Lite". Originally located at the 17th floor of the now comdemned PHILCOMSEN Building the station moved to PARAGON Building near Pioneer in EDSA by year 2000. I really love their Test Broadcast Playlist and have continued their unique way of Radio Programming which was headed by the station's General Manager ADEL GABOT aka. "Little David". Music from Mike and The Mechanics, Hall And Oates, Crash Test Dummies, Johnny Hates Jazz, and don't forget they were the ones who introduced and popularized ALANIS MORISETTE and HOOTIE AND THE BLOWFISH on Manila's Airwaves during their 1995 test broadcast. I was also a great fan of the station so once in a while if my time permits and I was not busy I really tuned in to K-Lite. I was able to meet some of their great DJs like Little David, Monica, The Blade, Jinji, and of course RON SOUTH of LITEWAVE(K-Lite's New Wave Show) on some ocassions sponsored by the station. Hmmmp Great Memories indeed!! I will make a seperate Blogpost of K-Lite's New Wave Radio Show "LITEWAVE: Your Ultimate New Wave Archive".

Here are the LAST K-LITE RADIO CREW:

Luckily, when I'm free to join some radio contest I was able to win some invites on their Advance Movie Screenings and some K-Lite Parties. He He He!! Of course, I was able to preserved this tickets.
103.5 K-Lite was also the first and only Philippine Radio Station who sponsored a "DRIVE-IN MOVIE". Huh? A "Drive-In Movie" event here in MANILA....How's that possible? Hmmmp!! I have to give it to LITTLE DAVID for this great idea. BTW, Little David conceptualized all the Radio Shows at K-Lite. YUP!! I was able to watch two K-Lite Drive-In Movies back in 1999 and these were the movies "I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER"( January 1999) and "THANK GOD IT'S FRIDAY"(November 1999) which were both held at TOPAZ ROAD ORTIGAS CENTER PARKING LOT. There were a lot actually but I was only able to watch their 3rd and 7th Drive-In Movie specials. Hmmmp!! Watching a movie on big screen while sitting inside your car then tuned-in to 103.5 K-Lite for the AUDIO.....THAT WAS REALLY A TREAT YEAH!! I thought It was just a dream because this is MANILA. Ooows!! Actually K-Lite was also the first one who made an interactive Talk Show by letting their listeners give their views and comments through......guess what? THE BEEEPER!! YUP!! Cellphones were not the in-thing during those times so no text messages. Ha Ha Ha! I remembered sending messages on the "TWISTED" Talk Show hosted by JESSICA ZAFRA and Little David through the Beeper. HE HE HE!! ASTIG!!

Here are the Two Big Drive-In Movie Tickets I've won back then that is to be place on the Car's Windshield while watching the movie.

I'm very thankful that the guys gave me two VERY EXCLUSIVE K-LITE CDs back then namely "K-Lite's 2nd Year Anniversary CD" in 1997 and "The Lite CD (The 2001 Collection) CD" in 2001. Hmmmp!! GREAT SOUVENIRS INDEED of this great Radio Station.

I listed all the radio shows and specials of 103.5 K-LITE from 1995 to 2006 for you to reminisce:

The Morning Show
Changing Gears
Twisted with Jessica Zafra
Girltalk
Talkback
Niteline
Sportsline
Lite & Live
Faster than Lite
Black & Lite
Classic Lite
E-Z Street
Freeway 1035
K-Lite Reload
9Night Trip
K-Lite After Hours
The Red Eye
Weekend Getaway
The K-Lite Weekly Tally

....and of course
Litewave

Incidentally, K-Lite was also one of the very first Philippine Radio Stations that was available on Internet Streaming. Well, I was really one of those guys who were upset when the station bid farewell in late November 2006 and was replaced by a new management and was called HEART 103.5. By this time K-Lite was already known as "Manila's Lite Alternative".Sadly, It was wayback 2002 when Little David left the station with some differences with the management and the station programming was never the same again. As I blog right now FM Radio Frequency 103.5 is known as "103 and a half MAX FM". Well, that's life!! I really missed the station and LITEWAVE which I also became a part of this New Wave Radio Show.

K-Lite's DJs "Little David" and "Monica" on their lovely wedding.
CONGRATS GUYS!!

Thanks 103.5 K-Lite(1995-2006)
for the great music and memories!!

BEST OF 102 MUSIC

Today is Friday the 13th
For my Blogpost #102:
"This Is 102 Music"
"This is 102 Music" is a famous phrase that the Legendary XB DJs would say on air during the 80s and it has been carried out also on their recent Internet Radio resurrection. Back in 1988, my friend bought a Bootleg Cassette Tape Compilation at the Legendary HIGH ADVENTURE shop entitled "102 MUSIC"which I was able to borrow and taped. Well, sadly he loss the tapes...why tapes? Because their were Two Volumes released. Hmmmp!! Gladly I was able to tape both cassette tapes and made my own HouseMixTape from the Bootleg Tape back in 1988 . YUP!! It's still with me!! HouseMixTape is the term coined for the cassette tapes that you taped by yourself as your own selection either from a Vinyl record, Cassette Tape, or even CD source during those times. I entitled it "BEST OF 102 volumes one and two".

MY own "BEST OF 102"
HouseMixTapes

MY TAPE COVERS

INSIDE MY TAPES

As you will notice back in 1988 when I made this Cassette Tapes I was not yet into Computers. I was only playing 80s arcade games but not into printing or any other computer work so I made the covers by myself by cutting out Pictures on Magazines and by using Graphics sticker to make the titles. I used the Typewriter for my Tracklist. Hmmmp!! How Innovative of me. Ha Ha Ha!! This is much better than the HIGH ADVENTURE Bootleg Tapes. He He He!! Well, those were the days!! Actually the Original Covers of "102 MUSIC" were well crafted and created back then but sorry we were not able to take photos of it. Well, my version of Volume One was much longer than the original because I used a C-90 blank tape so I recorded extra tracks. Oh diba? May "Extra Tracks" nako nalalaman noon. Ha Ha Ha!! I usually use the term "Extra Rice" when I'm not yet full eating my meal. Ha Ha Ha!! My Volume Two has the same Tracklist on the original bootleg. "102 MUSIC" Tracklist includes music from LULU KISS ME DEAD, THE HUMANS, ADAM ANT, BIG COUNTRY, JOY DIVISION, THE WATERBOYS and many more. Definitely a classic bootleg tape indeed back on those days here in MANILA. YUP!! I made the same TRACKLIST on my own HouseMixTape version. I still have both Tapes preserved on my collection which I will always cherish. GREAT MEMORIES INDEED!!
In 1996, I saw two CDs at Greenhills entitled "BEST OF 102 MUSIC" volumes one and two. Hmmmp!! They copied my HouseMixTape title? How could it be? OoowS!!Just like THE CHAMELEONS would sing on TEARS....."IT'S JUST COINCIDENCE". I was not able to purchase right away the CDs because that time it was really too expensive. When I had enough budget for it and tried to return to the shop but It wasn't there anymore. Hu! Hu! Hu!! Well, luckily I was able to locate a copy from a KABAYAN courtesy of JAMES aka. "strangeface87". I got to know James at the New Wave Outpost and I was really glad to see the CD on his Multiply Account. Why the aka. "strangeface87"? Well, James informed me that It's the name of their 4th Year High School Group back in 1987 wherein they got it from the lyrics of a WXB102 classic TRANSLATOR song "COME WITH ME". Ooops!! Nabisto ko tuloy edad mo nyan James. He He He!AYUZ!!

"BEST OF 102 MUSIC" Volumes One and Two
The CD Covers

The CDs
Consider as Bottleg CDs? I suppose....? The CD cover says that's It was Made In England by CONFUSION RECORDS. Now I'm confused!! Nevertheless, It's a great compilation. I actually thought this has the same Tracklist as to the 1988 Cassette Tape Bootleg....It has indeed a different Tracklist from the Tape. It was a different compilation and totally not related.

Hmmmp!! There was also a Volume Three? Just got it courtesy of bingbong thru Mckoy. This is entitled "102 MUSIC Volume 3 Alternative Rock". I guess this CD is related to the first two. Know about The Philippine Revolution and The Proclamation of Philippine Independence headed by EMILIO AGUINALDO.

CLICK HERE the PHOTO OF THE ORIGINAL PHILIPPINE FLAG to enter the great INFO site:

Since It's PHILIPPINE INDEPENDENCE DAY today, I've decided to feature a Philippine Compilation Cassette Tape entitled "PHILIPPINES SONGS FOR FREEDOM" recorded wayback 1984-1985 both here in MANILA and in GERMANY. Hmmmp!! So what's that tape? I consider this already a RARE MATERIAL so definitely it would spice up today's post. THANKS to MARIVIC aka. "billieredsocks" on the Multiply World I was able to obtain this very Patriotic Compilation Cassette Tape. I asked her if she would be willing to upload the whole material so that we could share it to you in this little Blog of mine......TAAARRAAAAH!!! HERE"S THE ENTIRE CASSETTE TAPE FOR YOU GUYS!! It features three Comtemporary Pinoy Music Activist JESS SANTIAGO, POL GALANG, and SUSAN FERNANDEZ-MAGNO. This was a fund-raising and advocacy project of one NGO during the late President Marcos' time. The audio quality is not so good, but these were popular songs of the protest/alternative music movement back then. YUP!! The 80s was a great decade for NEW WAVE/PUNK music here in MANILA, but of course we will not forget the POLITICAL CRISIS back then that have rocked the entire nation. There are two songs here namely, "Halina" and "Let Us Give The World To The Children", that have both German and Tagalog verses.

BEST OF 100 MUSIC OF THE EIGHTIES

IT'S MY 100th BLOGPOST!!!
Well, since today is my 100th Blogpost and I'm a great advocate of "PROUD TO BE PINOY" ideals....what a better way to celebrate it by featuring this PHILIPPINE RELEASE 6 CDs Compilation entitled "BEST OF 100 Music Of The Eighties". WOW!! I can't believe it!! Not really that much posting since I just find free time to update my blog for fun and of course to share my thoughts and music to everyone especially for you regular visitors of my little blog. YUP!! The NEW WAVE/PUNK scene here in MANILA!! I'm not here to compete with other Website...I'm just here for fun and relaxation. He He He!! THANK YOU VERY MUCH GUYS for the uplifting comments both here on my BLOG and on my Multiply account. And of course THANK YOU ALSO VISITORS FROM OTHER COUNTRIES!! Hmmmp!! Are there VISITORS FROM OTHER PLANETS here? Naaaah!! Thanks also to my KABAYANS who have contributed on this little Blog of mine. YUP!! Because of you guys I'm still here blogging to the nth degree. Ha Ha Ha!!

BEST OF 100 MUSIC OF THE EIGHTIES was released by EMI Philippines last 2006. Another Philippines release compilation of cool music from the decade that we won't forget easily and that's the 80s. This would be cherished a lot!! Well, I bought a copy for collection purposes even though I have most of the songs already because of it's well organized TRACKLIST. I consider the TRACKLIST of this 6 CDs as a "PINOY NA PINOY" thingy. NEW WAVE and 80s as defined by PINOY WAVERS. YUP!! It's very FILIPINO indeed. Why? I could only say XB,BM, and NU inspired with a combination of Common 80s music that's fit for PINOY consumption and of course for the whole world to hear too. You just don't get those "Hard To Find", "Out Of Print", "Rare" materials but sometimes you have to be real and get back to the basics. Music from APRIL SHOWERS (first original and major Manila CD release though it was released on Bootleg Compilation before),TUESDAY BLUE, RAILWAY CHILDREN, THE PALE FOUNTAINS, INDUSTRY, THE BIBLE, SCARLET AND BLACK, etc. The other side of the coin would be RICHARD MARX, SHEENA EASTON, MEL AND KIM, COREY HART. etc. I love the infusion of Bobby Mcferrin's song " Don't Worry, Be Happy". That's what you always have to remember!!

This CD compilation is compose of 3 Colorful Double Disc Package. That makes it 6 CDs for listening pleasure. Definitely this would take you back again in time and to those who were just too young during the 80s to appreciate such musical genre then this is the right collection for you to discover the Unforgetable 80s. As my very own MUSIC DICTUM would go"Music Matters and Memories Of It Matters Most". WOW HEAVY!! Hebigat ba mga KABAYANS? Hmmmp!! 100 songs for your time travel? Not bad at all!! This CD compilation was also sold outside the gate of the LOST 80's LIVE IN MANILA CONCERT last April 19,2008. It's still much available on your SUKING TINDAHAN. He He He!
This collection is displayed on Manila's Record Bars together with two other BEST OF 100 series namely "BEST LOVE 100" and "BEST OF 100 Music Of The Sixties". Well, it's up to you if you wanna get the other two. If you're Sentimental like most PINOYS then the LOVE series would be appropriate for you,but if you are into Baby Boomer music then get the SIXTIES series.

Do you know that there is another set of 100 Series dealing with the 80s but a different version? YUP!! It's entitled "100 ESSENTIAL 1980s"!! A lot of RETRO releases here in the Philippines lately.
100 % 80s INDEED!!

I decided to upload the first CHORUS GIRL for you guys courtesy of my good friend JACK J. Well, maybe a lot of you would ask what "CHORUS GIRL" means? Hmmmp!! There was a Painting of Konstantin Korovin back in 1883 entitled "Chorus Girl". There was also a 1912 film entitled "The Chorus Girl" which starred Pearl White and Chester Barnett. VERY INTERESTING INDEED. For PINOY WAVERS, "Chorus Girl" is still the CD that made a mark on the Bootleg New Wave Scene back in the late 90s.

HARMONIC TREND

HARMONIC TREND is considered as one of MANILA's LEGENDARY NEW WAVE MOBILES back in the 80s. It was formed by Blessed Elena Academy High School Classmates ALDRIN, OLIVER, JEFF, JOJO, and VIC wayback 1986. Well, this Pasay Dudes have contributed a lot in Manila's New Wave Scene back then and Aldrin recalls their first gig was at Oliver's house in Las Pinas wherein the title of the Party was "Cantonese Boy". Hmmmp!! Inspired by David Sylvian? Aldrin informed me that this party was a fund raising effort to buy themselves more equipments. WOW!! A great idea indeed!! Just for a 15bucks entrance you get to eat and drink all you can. Those were the days ha!! HARMONIC TREND then was tapped by WXB102 to be a part of some 102parties and spin their records. YUP!! That's the beginning of a great spinning experience for the guys who made a mark during those times. According to Aldrin, his most memorable 102 Party would be "SNEAK ATTACK Part Two". I have to agree with his choice because of the weird incident that happened on this great party. He He He!!

ALDRIN was kind enough to share some of HARMONIC TREND's Vintage photos:

I remember back in 1988 I made my own HouseMix Tape entitled Harmonic Trend. Hmmmp! One of the most famous Names in New Wave Mobiles!! Adrin is also an avid fan of THE CULT....you gotta see his great personal CULT Collection to be amaze. GALING!! Very
impressive indeed!!

My favorite would be his DREAMTIME LP and CD. There was also a 102 Party entitled "DREAMTIME" and Harmonic Trend was also included on that party's Mobile Line-up.

Here is a photo of HARMONIC TREND's Very First Mixer which they bought at Raon, Quiapo. AYUZ ah!! You guys were able to preserved it.

DEFINITELY ONE OF THOSE GREAT MOBILES HERE IN MANILA!!

HERE ARE SOME OF THEIR VINYL RECORDS!!
