The 17th and LAST NU 107 ROCK AWARDS

The Home Of New Rock NU 107 presented its 17th and probably the LAST NU 107 Rock Awards last October 29, 2010 at the NBC Tent recognizing and honoring the best of the best in the Philippine rock music. Tomorrow November 7, 2010 would be the last radio broadcast of this premiere Rock Radio station which started broadcasting at 107.5 in the FM dial wayback 1987. So be sure to stay tune for their farewell broadcast tomorrow night with a special episode of "NOT RADIO". Well, I guess this would also be my 4th and last NU 107 ROCK AWARDS blogpost which I have started since year 2007, also the year my little blog "The Doctor Is In" was born. I'll just present you the winners of the just concluded 17th NU 107 ROCK AWARDS so I hope you'll enjoy this simple blogpost of mine. The 2010 Rock Awards was hosted by Iza Calzado and was another star-studded event like all Rock Awards before with lots of celebrities like KC Concepcion, Anne Curtis and boyfriend Erwan Heussaff, couple Heart Evangelista and Daniel Matsunaga, Tim Yap , controversial couple Vicky Belo and Hayden Kho Jr. The performers included The Dawn who opened up singing a medley of “Iisang Bangka” and “Salamat". Karl Roy (Formerly of Advent Call and P.O.T) sang the Philippine National Anthem wearing a suit. Hmmp? Other performers were Ely Buendia, Rivermaya, Greyhoundz, Itchyworms, Kamikazee, Pupil, Slapshock, Sugarfree, , Up Dharma Down, The Youth, Wilabaliw and Archipelago.

The Five-piece Powerhouse Rock band FRANCO composed of Franco Reyes, Gabby Alipe, Paolo "Ocho" Toleran, Buhawi "Buwi" Meneses and JanJan Mendoza bagged the big awards of the night with a total of four wherein three of which were major ones.

The 16th NU107 Rock Awards

I made two blogposts last 2007 and 2008 about the NU 107 Rock Awards and so just to continue the tradition of featuring this prestigious music award here in my little blog "The Doctor Is In" , I present you the recent 2009 NU107 Rock Awards "High Definition". The 16th NU107 Rock Awards was held at THE WORLD TRADE CENTER last week October 30, 2009 and just like the other Rock Awards It was another night of showcasing THE BEST OF PINOY ROCK. YUP!! I have to say that It's definitely "THE BEST OF THE GREATEST" in our local talents wherein diversity was really seen in today's PHILIPPINE MUSIC SCENE. The musical landscape right now is constantly evolving and NU 107 strives to keep the public abreast of the best in the Philippine Music Industry wherein all sort of Musical Genres were crossed. YUP!! This is just "The Dr. Stirring Rhod Way" again of making the blospost of the Rock Awards.

THE 15th NU107 ROCK AWARDS

Last NOVEMBER 27, 2008 The 15th NU107 ROCK AWARDS was held at the SILVERCITY FRONTERA VERDE in Pasig City and like all ROCK AWARDS before it was also a memorable event for Filipino Rock Musicians. It was another night of PINOY ROCK that showcased the talents and ingenuity of Filipinos in the side of Rock Music. Last year 2007, I was able to also blog about The 14th NU107 Rock Awards so It's a must for me to feature too the recent 2008 Rock Awards.

The Rock Bands that performed that night were The Dawn, Radioactive Sago Project, Pupil, Markus Highway, Greyhoundz, Razorback, Urbandub and Sandwich. As usual, like last year,I used again images here for my blogpost so that you guys would at least have a piece of who these guys are. I just decided to spice it up because it would be dull if I will only post the plain text of the winners. So here it goes the WINNERS of the recent 2008 15th NU107 ROCK AWARDS:

PUPIL

ELY BUENDIA's(Former ERASERHEADS frontman) band "PUPIL" won the Major Plum of that evening by taking home 5 Trophies. WOW!! A great achievement indeed! PUPIL's members are Wendell Garcia, Dok Sergio, Ely Buendia, and Yan Yuzon.

PRODUCER OF THE YEAR:

Although their former drummer Bogs Jugo still played the drums on the song "Set Me Apart" on the "WILD LIFE Album.

This is PUPIL's second single and music video from the WILD LIFE album. Well, I find both the video and song up to date to the music of today.

Another former ERASERHEADS Raymund Marasigan's band "SANDWICH" gathered 3 Trophies that evening.

BEST LIVE ACT: SANDWICH
Just last month they opened up for GENE LOVES JEZEBEL on their DECAGON concert.

WALA AKONG MASABI DITO KABAYAN!! GALING NG Alternative Video na ito!! I guess the one who made this was not on the 80s generation since there was no pix of XB,NU and BETRAYED.

Well, definitely it deserved the SONG OF THE YEAR AWARD!! I was just wondering why the band did not mention BM on the lyrics? Only XB and NU.....HmmmP? Well, if you're talking about my generation then we could really relate to the song lyrics. "SWAK NA SWAK"!!

HALL OF FAME: SAN MIGUEL CORPORATION
I guess this company deserves this award!! Definitely my KABAYAN would clearly recall SAN MIGUEL CORPORATION's contributions on the PINOY ROCK concert scene especially my generation by remembering the ULTRA STORM and OCTOBER STORM concerts back in the 80s and for this new generation It was converted to the OCTOBERFEST celebration.

NOKIA IAC AWARD: FASPITCH

I noticed that all members of PINOY ROCK ICON "ERASERHEADS" were present that evening and their bands performed. ELY BUENDIA with PUPIL, RAYMUND MARASIGAN with SANDWICH, BUDDY ZABALA with THE DAWN, and MARKUS ADORO with MARKUS HIGHWAY. The ERASERHEADS REUNION CONCERT which was held last AUGUST 30,2008 was very successful even though it was cut short due to the medical condition of ELY. Nice to see these guys back together and in harmony. I remembered when NU107 gave the HALL OF FAME AWARD to ERASERHEADS back in 2003 only ELY was present to accept the award. WOW!! Of course that was the time when the band members had personal differences. So until NEXT YEAR!! Thanks again for reading this blogpost. MABUHAY KABAYANS!!

THE 14th NU107 ROCK AWARDS

NU107 was a vital radio station back in the 80s and still rockin' MANILA's airwaves at the present time. It brought back NEW WAVE format on MANILA months after WXB102 went off the air. It also inspired POWER105 DZBM to bring back their NEW WAVE format which was removed on mid-86. NU107 is also very influencial in promoting and supporting the PINOY ROCK scene from the 80s,90s, 2000 and beyond.

The NU107 ROCK AWARDS started wayback 1994 when the PINOY ALTERNATIVE ROCK scene was very much alive. I remembered watching the first Rock Awards on T.V. and Legendary Pinoy Rock Icons performed LIVE! "LAKLAK" by TEETH was the "SONG OF THE YEAR". ERASERHEADS Pinoy Alternative Catalytic Album "ULTRA ELECTROMAGNETIC POP" became the "ALBUM OF THE YEAR". I was able to get two different original NU107 ROCK AWARDS CDs given to me by NU107 jocks back then which I will post in this blog in the future.

The 14th NU107 ROCK AWARDS was held last week NOVEMBER 30,2007 at The World Trade Center in Pasay City. This 2007 Rock Awards is as star-studded as it was from the previous Rock Awards. Performances from PINOY ROCK bands like BAMBOO, HILERA, TROPICAL DEPRESSION and many more made the event really awesome. Of coure, don't forget 80s PINOY ROCK Icon THE DAWN was also there to perform.
