I was able to buy an original copy of this compilation with some help from my LITEWAVE buddies and decided to rip it up for you guys for this blogpost of mine and share it. Though, a little bit expensive if I may say. He He He!! For the love of sharing what can I do. This CD was produced on the Fourth Of JULY 1996 according to the label. It's another compilation of Extraordinary NEW WAVE REMIXES that's very unique and definitely not the usual versions we are familiar of. Of course, PINOY WAVERS would remember these versions because these were also played on "WAVE 180" circa 1996-1998. GREAT REMIXES AND ART COVER AGAIN!! I was surprised while I was ripping the whole CD I noticed that each song registered as METRO: BEST OF BERLIN so I have to edit each song title because each of them corresponded to a BERLIN song. WEIRD Isn't It? I wasn't able to remove the BERLIN CD Cover though. The important thing is that I'm sharing it to you guys right now. And now I present you another of those PHILIPPINE NEW WAVE REMIXES Compilation CD........."THE RISE OF INDIE"!!

"BAZAAR" Love Triangle?

BIZARRE LOVE TRIANGLE

This blogpost of mine is dedicated to my "BAZAAR" Kabayan ROB. Oh ayan ah very special na yan ROB. He He He!! The EDITOR-IN-CHEF-IN-THE-CHICKEN este KITCHEN of my blog? Well, we will not be talking 50% discount or even as much as 70% discount here. "BAZAAR" in MANILA is also known as TIANGGE, or UKAY-UKAY. This is about NEW ORDER's classic song "BIZARRE LOVE TRIANGLE". This great song was even ranked #201 on the "500 Greatest Song Of All Time" by ROLLING STONE back in 2004.
I uploaded two music videos of BAZAAR este BIZARRE LOVE TRIANGLE from NEW ORDER and FRENTE which I consider a classic NEW WAVE Song!! Very popular for PINOY NEW WAVERS and especially on NEW WAVE PARTIES back in the 80s here in MANILA.

I first heard of NEW ORDER's "BIZARRE LOVE TRIANGLE" back in 1986 on POWER105 DZBM-FM when this radio station played the extended 12-inch version of the song.

I first heard of this FRENTE rendition of a NEW ORDER classic back in 1992 on 97.1 WLS FM. Nice acoustic version indeed from "MARVIN THE ALBUM".

The lyrics of the song was not anyway related to the "LEGION OF DOOM" character "BIZARRO" of the cartoon show "THE JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA" shown here in MANILA on SATURDAY FUN MACHINE back in the 80s. Bizarro is use to describe anything that uses twisted logic or that is the opposite of something else. Hmmmp!! So ROB, if there is any other "BAZAAR" words here you know how to get in touch with me bro. That's how BIZARRE this blogpost of mine. Ha Ha Ha!! Nice song from NEW ORDER and definitely even you're not into NEW WAVE you should also know the song. Do we need to memorize it?
One BIZARRE post!!

And GOD Created INDIE

From the first book of THE BIBLE which is the Book Of GENESIS, the creation week narrative begins with these words: "In the beginning, GOD created the heavens and the earth." It took place over a period of six days and was followed by a seventh day of rest. GOD created in chronological order: LIGHT, THE HEAVENS, DRY LAND AND SEA, LIGHTS IN THE HEAVENS, SEA CREATURES AND BIRDS, LAND ANIMALS AND HUMAN BEINGS, and rested on the 7th Day. So when did GOD CREATED INDIE? Hmmmp!! On the 8th day? Naaah!! It's just the title of another Philippine NEW WAVE Compilation CD.

It was 1996 while I was listening to 89DMZ's New Wave Program called "WAVE180" hosted by "THE UNBEATABLE", I heard a very different extended remix of PSYCHEDELIC FURS' classic song "GHOST IN YOU". I never heard that version before even in the 80s so I decided to track it down where I could get a good copy of this version. Then I saw this CD in GREENHILLS SHOPPING MALL entitled "AND GOD CREATED INDIE" few days after I heard it on "WAVE 180" and It was included on the CD. It was a bit expensive that time so I decided to skip it for a while. Then I found out that my brother's classmate have bought the CD compilation already so good thing I'll just have to borrow it and tape it on a good MAXELL Chrome Tape to cut on my budget. No CD burning back then. He he he!!

It's a compilation of THE BEST NEW WAVE REMIXES which were very much different from the original remixes that PINOY WAVERS are familiar of. YUP!! It's not the original remixes we heard before and totally another version. The ART cover is terriffic for the title don't you think? These songs were all played on "WAVE 180" during the radio program's peak. We are fortunate today that my friend Rhenzo was able to obtain a copy of the compilation so that we could share it to you guys. We will be glad to hear from you guys when you download this compilation. I reuploaded the file he gave me and so here it is the CD compilation I'm talking about........."AND GOD CREATED INDIE".

INDIE mp3 collectors series

What is INDIE? It's not the nickname of INDIANA JONES and nothing to do with the INDY 500 motor race. "INDIE" is short for "Independent" and It means a lot of things and if you're talking about music then the discussion of INDIE MUSIC would just end up with a debate. In this case I'm referrring about "INDIE MUSIC" whether It's the so-called "INDIE POP" or "INDIE ROCK". If you're going to research the true meaning of this musical genre then It's very diverse and complicated in a way. What may be INDIE to you may not be INDIE to others. It is definitely a subculture music that is independent of major labels or producers that could be labeled on this genre. NaintINDIEhan naba KABAYAN? He He He!! What is an mp3? The term MP3 came from M(oving) P(icture) E(xperts) G(roup) -1 Audio Layer 3 nomenclature which is a digital audio encoding format using a form of lossy data compression. So that's "INDIE" and "mp3" for you!!

Back in 1999, there was these two mp3 music collection series that were made available here in MANILA specifically at GREENHILLS SHOPPING MALL entitled "INDIE mp3 collectors series 1 and 2". YUP!! You got it right guys!! I consider this if not the first mp3 collection released, then It's one of the first released here in MANILA back in 1999. As bootleg? Naaah!!My high school buddy "JACK J." who now resides in CANADA was able to buy these two mp3 collection back then and I was glad that he still has it on his Vaults up to this time so that we could feature it here in my little blog. Well, during those times CD burning was not yet a medium of getting your kind of music and mp3 players was not yet in the market unlike today most of the PINOY youngsters has an mp3 player with them. When JACK told me about this back in 1999 I decided to borrow it after a week so that he has time to listen to the entire mp3 of both selections. The series explores 299 great songs that would travel you back in the 80s. This is very different from "THE ULTIMATE EIGHTIES COLLECTION" mp3 series that I've featured in this blog before.

So what's "INDIE" about it? Basically, It's PINOY NEW WAVE definition and it included tracks played by XB, BM and NU back in the 80s on MANILA's FM radio dials. It's an 80s Independent collection that span the entire decade.

"INDIE mp3 collectors series 1" has a total of 148 songs that includes music from bands like DEACON BLUE, EIGHT WONDER, SIOUXSIE & THE BANSHEES, THE MIGHTY LEMON DROPS, ROARING BOYS, SISTERS OF MERCY, and a lot more.

"INDIE mp3 collectors series 2" has a total of 151 songs that includes music from bands like THE WILD SWANS, TWO MINDS CRACK, THE SOUND, THE ADVENTURES, THE BELLE STARS, CACTUS WORLD NEWS, and a lot more.

Nice Compilation INDIEed!!

Today's PHILIPPINE Peso Bills

To start the YEAR OF THE OX let us be positive regarding the current global financial crisis. A lot have been said about it and I guess majority have been feeling the recession already. For luck I decided to just show and feature these Philippine Peso Bills for today's blogpost. Hmmmp!! Maybe after 10-15 years they will all be different and I'll just look at this blogpost of mine to compare. He He He!! That would also mean 10-15 years more of blogging. Ha Ha Ha!! I'm not a collector of coins or these kind of bills but I always find time on NEW YEAR's eve that I have all these Bills in my wallet for at least a LUCKY CHARM for the incoming year in terms of financial blessings I may say. I'm not a FENG SHUI hardcore believer but It doesn't hurt to have these bills when approaching JANUARY ONE of any year. And take note It should be the NEW ONES which are still hot from the Bank's printing press. He He He!! Of course, I already spend the Bills shown in the photo so If you have these Bills in your wallet right now KABAYAN with the same serial numbers then this is what they look like when they were still new and without that money odor thing. He He He!! I'm not earning money by blogging here, It's just my form of diversion, relaxation and fun. By featuring these bills doesn't mean that this would be a commercial blog. Who knows maybe 5 years from now. Naaah!!

Here are the list of the great Filipinos in the Bills:

1000 pesos
Jose Abad Santos
Josefa Llanes Escoda
Vicente Lim

500 pesos
Benigno Aquino, Jr

200 pesos
Diosdado Macapagal

100 pesos
Manuel Roxas

50 pesos
Sergio OsmeƱa

20 pesos
Manuel L. Quezon

To know more about our Philippine Peso Bill check this Wikipedia entry with great Information on the "Banknotes Of The Philippine Peso". Click the "REPUBLIKA NG PILIPINAS" Logo to enter the site.

Btw, both 5 and 10 peso bills are not anymore in circulation so KABAYAN If you still have them then just keep It for History purposes for the next generation to see. I can still remember during the 80s that the 5 peso bills having the photo of General Emilio Aguinaldo was transformed to the 80s Pinoy singer RANDY SANTIAGO who was an 80s Icon too.

Here's a cool MUSIC VIDEO from CYNDI LAUPER:

MONEY CHANGES EVERYTHING- CYNDI LAUPER

It's a refreshing version from her classic 80s hit!!

So save your MONEY for the rainy days!!

BEAT IT/ EAT IT

Hello Guys!! Well, for today's blogpost let us make it different by featuring two very interesting Videos from the 80s from two very popular artists of the decade namely the "King Of Pop" MICHAEL JACKSON and the "KING OF PARODY" WEIRD AL YANKOVIC. It was 1982 when Michael Jackson's 6th studio album "THRILLER" was released and made a tremendous impact on the music industry around the globe. YUP!! It was an album that was also a major hit here in MANILA back then. Although, I collect music from the NEW WAVE/PUNK ROCK genre and it's subgenres, I have to say that I like this album which still holds the title of "THE BEST SELLING ALBUM OF ALL TIME" since I grew up listening to the music of the 80s. I actually bought the 25th Anniversary CD of it last year with great packaging and added tracks and videos . He He He!! "BEAT IT" was the 3rd single from this sensational "THRILLER" album which won MJ two Grammy Awards for Record of the Year and Best Male Rock Vocal Performance and was ranked #337 on the list of the 500 Greatest Songs of All Time conducted by Rolling Stone Magazine. What a song!! Especially with the guitar solo that featured Eddie Van Halen as guest. Then, out of the blue, parodist/song writer Alfred Matthew Yankovic aka. "WEIRD AL YANKOVIC made his own spoof version of MJ's "BEAT IT" entitled "EAT IT" that has a funny Music Video. I remember seeing this music video for the first time and I was really laughing out loud. An exact replica of the original MJ "BEAT IT" music video with a touch of humor. WOW!! Great MTV indeed. "Eat It" became #1 in Australia and earned Weird Al Yankovic a 1984 Grammy Award in the Best Comedy Recording category. The song also went to #12 in the BILLBOARD HOT 100 in the US charts. I really like WEIRD AL's lyrics on this one.

So here it goes the two Music Videos that I'm talking about and I hope you will enjoy watching it and get a trip back again down memory lane with a touch of laughter.

Just BEAT IT,
Just EAT IT!!
Aaaaawww!!

BEST OF PUNK ROCK

It was 1980 when PUNK ROCK started to become a great music phenomenon here in MANILA and this was before XB,BM, and NU invaded the FM radio dials playing New Wave/Punk Rock music for PINOYS to enjoy. Well, if you're going to define PUNK ROCK in a true sense then there might be some different perceptions on how you believe it would sound like. It's like defining NEW WAVE wherein different countries have their own definition about NEW WAVE. Of course, here in MANILA I have to admit that we do have our own PINOY concept of NEW WAVE which I find very different and much better in taste from other countries styles and thoughts of this musical genre. That goes out for PUNK ROCK because what may be PUNK ROCK to you may not be PUNK ROCK to others and that goes the same with NEW WAVE. Let's not debate on it anymore. Back in 1987, there was a cassette tape format that began flooding record stores here in MANILA and this was the so-called INDONESIAN TAPE. Though, If you would check the tapes more carefully It was stated on the Labels that most of them were really made from the MIDDLE EAST and not really from Indonesia. So why INDONESIAN TAPE? I simply don't know the exact answer. That's how It was called here back then. This Cassette Tape Format released any form of musical genres from SLOW ROCK, FOLK AND COUNTRY, NEW WAVE, PUNK ROCK and others. Some PINOYS would even ask their relatives working in the Middle East to send them these kind of tapes back then.

I was able to buy two volumes of BEST OF PUNK ROCK in this cassette tape format which is very much different from the original cassette tapes that we usually know. YUP!! It's still preserve in my Vaults after two decades since I bought it. He He He!! The packaging of the tape is a bit bigger and there is this distinct thick protective cover that would preserve the tape from heat. I guess It's perfect for countries having a hot climate like in the Middle East. "BEST OF PUNK ROCK" and "BEST OF PUNK ROCK 2" were the titles of the said compilations I bought at RAON in QUIAPO wayback 1989. Both cassette tapes are in C-90 type so that means It's one and a half hour of great PUNK ROCK music each. According to the label It's a FINE AZIMUTH CASSETTE HOUSING MECHANISM and It's DIRECT DIGITAL MASTERING. The sound of these tapes are excellent and I still remember those Jeepney Drivers playing this tape format on their passenger jeepneys back in the late 80s and early 90s for sound tripping.

I decided to post the TRACKLIST of both tapes here in my blogpost so that you guys have an insight of the Artists and Songs included on these tapes.

The Presidents of the United States of America

Any time from now(January 20, 2009 US time and January 21 Philippine time) President-elect Barack Obama will take the oath of office in the White House as the 44th President of the United States of America so I decided to blog about this 90s Alternative Punk band name "The Presidents of the United States of America". YUP!! You got it right!! What a name indeed for a band who really broke the mainstream back in 1995 with their smashing hit "LUMP". Personally, I like their kind of music and I first heard them on radio via NU107 back in 1995. For me, they are one of the great Alternative Punk Bands that emerged in the 90s compose of Chris Ballew on Vocals, BasitarJason Finn on Drums and Vocals, and Andrew McKeag on Guitar and Bass. Hmmmp!! LUMP? Well, as a medical practitioner we would definitely know the term "Lump" which is very much in the practice during Physical Examinations. Actually, I will only be featuring the band's two great songs and music videos for this blogpost of mine which are "Lump" and their remake of a BUGGLES' classic "Video Killed The Radio Star" and of course some bits of the U.S. presidents just to spice it up. In 1996 the band even performed LIVE at MOUNT RUSHMORE on PRESIDENT'S DAY and were introduced with: "Ladies and gentlemen, the Presidents of the United States." WHEEEW!! The original sountrack of the movie "THE WEDDING SINGER" which starred both ADAM SANDLER and DREW BARRYMORE included the classic rendition of The Presidents of the United States of America of "Video Killed The Radio Star". I also remember Pinoy Rock Band "The Jett Pangan Group" performing this 90s version LIVE on T.V. when It was a hit here in MANILA back in 1998. I actually love this film even though the plot is very simple because watching It gives you the portal to travel to the 80s and It's nice to see BILLY IDOL on the tail end of the movie.

So here it goes two of my favorite Music Videos from THE PRESIDENTS OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA:

ENDZONE's New Wave Electro Mix

"The FIRST NOEL , the angels did sing was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay "...... Ooops enough of the HOLIDAY SEASON!! Well, this would be the first NEW WAVE Mix that I will feature for this year 2009 here in my little blog and It's done by my KABAYAN Noel aka. ENDZONE. YUP!! The First Mix for the year created by Noel!! That's why you just sang that Christmas Carol. He He he!Let's start the show on the road as we listen to another set of our kind of music. I asked him to prepare a Synthwave mix set which is very electronic so that It would be very different from the other KABAYAN mixes I featured here before and I was glad my concept suggestion was what he love to listen to and so It's at least easier for him to make the set.

Noel grew up also in the 80s like I did so we very much share the same passion for music which is NEW WAVE. According to him during Elementary and High School he was musically inclined to it and more on the Synthwave or Synthpop or anything you wanna call It pertaining to synthesizer like DEPECHE MODE, NEW ORDER, and SOFT CELL just to name a few. Upon entering college some of his musical taste have changed a bit because he began digging HOUSE and TECHNO MUSIC wherein his great musical influences are Depeche Mode, DJ Tiesto, and Deadmau5. He collects their albums and mixes. Well, for him DJing is just a past time to get away from being homesick. Btw, a lot of PINOY NEW WAVERS are working far way from home and some of them have shared already here in my blog. MABUHAY kayo jan mga KABAYAN!! Susunod nako jan!! Ah che che!!

Acid Bath's
Anthems From The Alleyways
Recently, I got to drop by a blogspot of a KABAYAN of mine and I was amazed on the site so I asked him If it's okay for him that I'll feature his Extensive Hard Music Site. PUNK, HARDCORE, INDIE, SKA, ROCKABILY and even NEW WAVE are some of the musical genres explored. PUNK ROCK DADDY aka ACID BATH in the multiply world has his blogspot named "ANTHEMS FROM THE ALLEYWAYS". Definitely, one great site for you guys who dig the same musical taste that would hit your eardrum. He He He!! I asked him to name his TOP 10 ALBUMS and TOP 10 ARTISTS so that we could enter it here in my special blogpost about his site. So here it goes:

This is a very interesting list indeed by Acid Bath and you will get the impression that he really enjoys listening to Hard Hitting Music. This reminds me of the Legendary WXB102 evening radio program entitled "CAPITAL RADIO" wherein you could listen to these punk and hardcore stuffs during the 80s. YUP!! The radio show's name was taken from the classic song of THE CLASH and It was also included on the radio program plug. Definitely not a CRAP ON THE RADIO as STIFF LITTLE FINGERS would sing it.

Here's a photo of some of his CDs displayed on his child's crib. Hmmmp!! ROCK-A-BYE BABY!! Second childhood KABAYAN? He He He!! Cool Stuffs!!

Well, since we are featuring "Anthems From The Alleyways" then a favorite of mine was Acid Bath's "LEFT OF THE DIAL: DISPATCHES FROM THE 80s UNDERGROUND" CD blogpost. It's a 4 CDs diverse compilation that includes 82 tracks from the 80s Alternative Scene. WOW!! Nice compilation that includes music from THE DEAD MILKMEN, THE JAM, THE CHURCH, R.E.M., DEPECHE MODE, BILLY BRAGG, and a lot more. Just check out his blogpost to know more of the said compilation I'm talking about. Another time travel for you guys to enjoy!! MABUHAY ka KABAYAN!! Astig!!

007 "Quantum Of Solace"

Last November 5,2008 the 22nd James Bond 007 film entitled "QUANTUM OF SOLACE" was shown here in the Philippines. Well, since I'm an avid fan of this IAN FLEMING character how could I skip blogging this film even though It's a little bit late for reviewing it. I noticed that this film is sort of a sequel of the 2006 BOND film "CASINO ROYALE" because of the story plot. Of course, It was DANIEL CRAIG's second performance being JAMES BOND 007 and definitely It's quite a good movie too. Although, I miss those gadgets or the so-called BOND toys because unlike on the previous JAMES BOND films "Quantum Of Solace" didn't feature that much high tech gadgetry. What's very interesting is that the style of the movie is changing and maybe due to how It would adapt to the times since this character have been in the movie scene for decades already. There is still humour within it which will make It light for the other scenes in the film. As majority of BOND films another BOND Lady named Strawberry Fields died and It seems there is this endless question If JAMES BOND will ever be married or settle down with a special someone for life. Hmmmp!! I guess with his line of work that would be very difficult. In the whole career of this secret agent, guys would really look after watching his hot and sexy leading ladies. It never fail to amazed me how BOND would get these chicks. I love the action scenes here and It's fast indeed. Any BOND film is not complete without a car chase right? The BMW cars, the OMEGA watch are some of those that never get out of style If you're talking of taste. He He He!!

We watched the film on the big screen few days It opened here in MANILA. With the recent OIL crisis one would think If petroleum indeed controls the world. If a country have a lot of resources pertaining to oil then It's considered to be powerful. In "Quantum Of Solace" on the otherhand focuses on the control of WATER. YUP!! This time the chemical symbol H20 is the main ingredient on how to control a country and even the whole world. The villain DOMINIC GREENE who is a member of the Quantum organization posing as an environmentalist intends to stage a coup d'Ć©tat in Bolivia so that he could take control of the country's water supply. Vengeance was also very prominent in the plot especially for the lead character JAMES BOND and BOND lady Camilles Montes. Definitely another great film for JAMES BOND fans like me. I just wondered why there was no BOND film released in year 2007. It would have been a great theme having "007 on 2007". Naaah!!

Btw, I have two blogposts about JAMES BOND prior to this so do check it out If you haven't read them. The first one was last 2007 when I featured my entire JAMES BOND VCD collection and the second one was about the two BOND soundtrack songs of the 80s namely "A VIEW TO A KILL" by DURAN DURAN and "THE LIVING DAYLIGHTS" by A-HA.
