I decided to upload the first CHORUS GIRL for you guys courtesy of my good friend JACK J. Well, maybe a lot of you would ask what "CHORUS GIRL" means? Hmmmp!! There was a Painting of Konstantin Korovin back in 1883 entitled "Chorus Girl". There was also a 1912 film entitled "The Chorus Girl" which starred Pearl White and Chester Barnett. VERY INTERESTING INDEED. For PINOY WAVERS, "Chorus Girl" is still the CD that made a mark on the Bootleg New Wave Scene back in the late 90s.

CHORUS GIRL

It was early 1998 when an 80s New Wave Philippine Bootleg CD Compilation entitled "CHORUS" was released here in Manila specifically in Greenhills Shopping Mall. The Alternative Rock Genre was already waning on Manila's airwaves by that time. The New Wave Program of 89DMZ "WAVE180" was very vital in bringing back New Wave in the mid90s and also gave the New Generation of Pinoy Music Enthusiasts a chance back then to really know about the musical genre called "NEW WAVE" . When the magic of WAVE180 was declining in 1998, New Wave Bootleg CD compilations started to be released here in Manila. The PINOY definition of NEW WAVE would be very much different from other countries but I still consider it as the best definition. (Tama ba mga Kabayans?) Then a sequel to it "CHORUS 2" was also released which I was able to buy(during those times it's still expensive) due to the great sales of the original one.



The "CHORUS" CD compilation then mutated into what Pinoy Wavers would definitely recall as "CHORUS GIRL". YUP! Burn CDs were not yet the trend during those times and so a lot of volumes were then produced. It includes music from B52s, Human League,Billy Idol, Bananarama and a lot more....... "too many to mention".

Thanks to buddy ERIC ALVIZ who shared the photo of his complete "CHORUS GIRL" CD series which he was able to collect and preserved. I, personally wasn't able to complete the series so I ask ERIC if I could feature his entire "CHORUS GIRL" collection in this Blog of mine. A total of 9 "CHORUS GIRL" CDs. This doesn't include the two sequels of "CHORUS".

A great fan of this CD compilation is DJ HILARY(LITEWAVE DJ for 8 months in 2005). She mentioned one time on air on her LITEWAVE show that her sister JANUARY ISAAC(Model/Actress who is well known in the Philippine Commercial as SURF's LUMEN) has influenced her on NEW WAVE by these said compilations. Hmmmmp!! Great Taste!!



BTW, by year 2000 this entire series which was already a bootleg was even bootlegged at a much cheaper price which was available at QUIAPO. HE HE HE!! Well, It doesn't stop there..... Last 2004 this series became an mp3 Bootleg CD. YUP!! The entire CHORUS GIRL series on one CD. Hmmmmp!! Only in the Philippines indeed!! Ayuuuuuzzzzz talaga Pinoy!! MABUHAY!!
