Well, I guess this would be my last post in this little BLOG of mine for the YEAR2007. It was indeed another great year for me. As we all say goodbye to 2007 and hello to 2008, do take time to count your blessings. It will fill your heart with GRACE and GRATITUDE. So to all VIEWERS of my BLOG "THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR SUPPORTING THIS LITTLE BLOG OF MINE!" So to those Lurkers ,well start signing in my GUEST BOOK so that I'll get to know you guys!! More to come this 2008!!
I think most of you guys have already a copy of U2's Classic Song "NEW YEARS DAY" so I don't need to upload the song anymore. The "U2 War" Vinyl Record was one of my first Imported Records I bought back in 1985. Here in MANILA, you have the option to buy either the Locally pressed Vinyl or the Imported ones. There were also a lot of New Wave Records which were played on both XB and BM that were never released locally but Pinoy Wavers like me got our own copies as Imports here in Vinyl Specialty Stores or Abroad. "NEW YEARS DAY" by U2 was included in their classic "WAR" album.

CHORUS GIRL

It was early 1998 when an 80s New Wave Philippine Bootleg CD Compilation entitled "CHORUS" was released here in Manila specifically in Greenhills Shopping Mall. The Alternative Rock Genre was already waning on Manila's airwaves by that time. The New Wave Program of 89DMZ "WAVE180" was very vital in bringing back New Wave in the mid90s and also gave the New Generation of Pinoy Music Enthusiasts a chance back then to really know about the musical genre called "NEW WAVE" . When the magic of WAVE180 was declining in 1998, New Wave Bootleg CD compilations started to be released here in Manila. The PINOY definition of NEW WAVE would be very much different from other countries but I still consider it as the best definition. (Tama ba mga Kabayans?) Then a sequel to it "CHORUS 2" was also released which I was able to buy(during those times it's still expensive) due to the great sales of the original one.



The "CHORUS" CD compilation then mutated into what Pinoy Wavers would definitely recall as "CHORUS GIRL". YUP! Burn CDs were not yet the trend during those times and so a lot of volumes were then produced. It includes music from B52s, Human League,Billy Idol, Bananarama and a lot more....... "too many to mention".

Thanks to buddy ERIC ALVIZ who shared the photo of his complete "CHORUS GIRL" CD series which he was able to collect and preserved. I, personally wasn't able to complete the series so I ask ERIC if I could feature his entire "CHORUS GIRL" collection in this Blog of mine. A total of 9 "CHORUS GIRL" CDs. This doesn't include the two sequels of "CHORUS".

A great fan of this CD compilation is DJ HILARY(LITEWAVE DJ for 8 months in 2005). She mentioned one time on air on her LITEWAVE show that her sister JANUARY ISAAC(Model/Actress who is well known in the Philippine Commercial as SURF's LUMEN) has influenced her on NEW WAVE by these said compilations. Hmmmmp!! Great Taste!!



BTW, by year 2000 this entire series which was already a bootleg was even bootlegged at a much cheaper price which was available at QUIAPO. HE HE HE!! Well, It doesn't stop there..... Last 2004 this series became an mp3 Bootleg CD. YUP!! The entire CHORUS GIRL series on one CD. Hmmmmp!! Only in the Philippines indeed!! Ayuuuuuzzzzz talaga Pinoy!! MABUHAY!!

UNDERGROUND RADIO CHRISTMAS SPECIALS

"R U Listening to U.R.?"- well, that's the famous station I.D. that I hear often whenever I get a chance to listen to the newly formatted RJ UNDERGROUND RADIO 105.9. This format came about early JULY of this year 2007 and I was just able to catch it last AUGUST. I find the playlist very interesting and as their DJs would say "We play CLASSIC ROCK, MODERN ROCK, and PINOY ROCK". Their radio dial LA 105.9 is the same FM dial which brought the PINOY ALTERNATIVE ROCK explosion of the early 90s but this time it is owned by Rajah Broadcasting Corporation which bought the station in 2006.

Last OCTOBER I was able to tune in to the early morning show of MICK ZINGER and MEMPHIS called "A.M. MAYHEM" before going to work and I find the show very cool. Great playlist indeed so if I have ample time in my schedule I listen to this morning show.

This December RJ Underground Radio 105.9 had these CHRISTMAS SPECIALS on their radio shows. YUP!! It was a great treat for their avid listeners. They started it out last DECEMBER 23 when HOWLIN DAVE's show "PINOY ROCK and RHYTHM" had their CHRISTMAS PINOY ROCK SPECIAL. I caught some of the show which was aired 12noon to 4pm and it was a refreshing rock show which showcased PINOY ROCK CHRISTMAS SONGS. Annng Galiiiing!! And last DECEMBER 24 and 25 RJ Underground Radion had a 48hour CHRISTMAS ROCK SPECIAL. Yup that's true 48hours of NON-STOP Rockin' Christmas tunes from all genres of rock. Of course, I was not a martyr to tune in for 48 hours because I was also busy for the Holidays. HE HE HE! Although, I caught some of the songs that was played during my spare time like THE PRETENDERS, THE KINKS, THE SCAVENGERS, etc. Well, that's CHRISTMAS for RAMON "RJ" JACINTO "owner of the station" and lead singer of the LEGENDARY PINOY 60s ROCK and ROLL BAND "R.J. and the RIOTS".

THE CHIPMUNKS CHRISTMAS

During the late 70s my DAD use to play his VINYL Record of "THE CHIPMUNKS GREATEST CHRISTMAS HITS" whenever it's CHRISTMAS season here in the Philippines. YUP!! This album brings back great memories of my youth and my DAD. Unfortunately, I can't find anymore his VINYL Record so I have to buy the CD version of it. I was surprised to know that there were actually two CHIPMUNKS Christmas CDs available in the record bars so I finally decided to purchase both of them. The other one is entitled "A CHIPMUNK CHRISTMAS" by "ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS". But for me the album "THE CHIPMUNKS GREATEST CHRISTMAS HITS" is much better. Up to now, these songs never really get me bored and it's really fun listening to them. Since, Christmas is only a few days away, then I've been playing these songs frequently. The good old days of my Childhood and today's life fulfillment and enrichment combined while listening to these classic Christmas tunes sung by the most popular and mischievous ALVIN, the chubby THEODORE, and the intelectual SIMON(with eyeglasses) together known as THE CHIPMUNKS . Of course, there is DAVID SEVILLE who is their human father who takes care of this trio. I do hope you enjoy the two songs that I just uploaded for you guys who frequent my Blog. One in each album and they are my favorites!!

Here is another big NEWAVE/PUNK CHRISTMAS hit in MANILA!! RAMONES was first introduced here in MANILA by RJAM "THE ROCK OF MANILA" wayback 1978 by PINOR ROCK LEGENDARY DJ HOWLIN' DAVE and the rest of the RJ Radio People back then. This great CHRISTMAS song was first played here in MANILA by DZBM POWER105 wayback 1989 when this was released. It was actually recorded on DECEMBER 1988 and was released MAY 1989 then It became a big hit on the 1989 CHRISTMAS SEASON for PINOY NEW WAVERS. It also became a regular Christmas playlist on RETRO and NEW WAVE radio shows here in MANILA so that's how popular and intense the song is for PINOY WAVERS.

HERALD X

Well, here is another UNDERGROUND FANZINE that was published here in MANILA during the NEW WAVE/PUNK era of the 80s. HERALD X is an underground newsletter/magazine published wayback late 1986 during the Turmoil Times in Philippine Politics and of course on the HEYDAY of NEW WAVE and PUNK scene here in MANILA better known as the BRAVE NEW WORLD scene. It features news about PINOY PUNK Pioneers URBAN BANDITS, BETRAYED and imported hardcore bands like DEAD KENNEDYS and a lot more stuffs about the latest Underground Scene back then. YUP!! It's one of those Fanzine that also featured "THE STATION THAT DARES TO BE DIFFERENT" WXB102 since XB was one of the prime movers and supporters of the PINOY PUNK scene back then. Twisted Red Cross' Tommy Tanchanco considered HERALD X as a medium to promote his Record Label

THANKS TO ROMMEL GONZALES of PINOY WAVE BAND CAFFEINE I got to feature his Original HERALD X Fanzine which he was able to preserve up to this date. There were only TWO ISSUES that were published back in 1986. Actually, there was an unpublished 3rd Issue of HERALD X and it was on Xerox Copy format that includes mostly album reviews. If any one of you have a copy of it maybe you could share it here on my little blog.

"What's the Buzz, tell me what's happening." (3X) "This is NEWSWAVE!" Ooops! As soon as I hear this on air on the Legendary XB show "REQUEST ROUND-UP" of Legendary XB DJ(My favorite XB jock!!) "THE MORNING MAN" back in 1987 it means it's NEWS time on his slot. The music background was taken from the JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR soundtrack and the song title is "What's The Buzz?".


NEWSWAVE is a NEWS portion about the latest in NEW WAVE and it's genres on Morning Man's Request Round-Up Morning Show which was conceptualized on JANUARY 1987. It's very obvious that the title was taken from the word "NEW WAVE".

In APRIL 1988, a Newsletter/magazine called "NEWSWAVE" was released on the underground world. As the Editors and Authors of the said Fanzine have written back then "NEWSWAVE is a newspaper magazine about anything but not everything." I bought a copy of the NEWSWAVE in HARRISON PLAZA back in 1988, but unfortunately I was unable to preserve my copy.WaaaaaaH!! The fanzine includes news about the sequestered WXB102"THE STATION THAT DARES TO BE DIFFERENT" and what happened to their DJs, The new NU107, Identity Crisis on T.V., and some news about THE BOLSHOI and U2 and a lot more stuffs!! There was also a NEWSWAVE Volume Two if I'm not mistaken. I'm not really sure if that was published too.

THANKS TO ALDRIN of Legendary New Wave Mobile HARMONIC TREND I was able to feature his copy in this blog of mine. YUP!! The photos here are ALDRIN's NEWSWAVE original copy which he scanned and preserved. So all 8 pages of the whole fanzine is here!!

THE 14th NU107 ROCK AWARDS

NU107 was a vital radio station back in the 80s and still rockin' MANILA's airwaves at the present time. It brought back NEW WAVE format on MANILA months after WXB102 went off the air. It also inspired POWER105 DZBM to bring back their NEW WAVE format which was removed on mid-86. NU107 is also very influencial in promoting and supporting the PINOY ROCK scene from the 80s,90s, 2000 and beyond.

The NU107 ROCK AWARDS started wayback 1994 when the PINOY ALTERNATIVE ROCK scene was very much alive. I remembered watching the first Rock Awards on T.V. and Legendary Pinoy Rock Icons performed LIVE! "LAKLAK" by TEETH was the "SONG OF THE YEAR". ERASERHEADS Pinoy Alternative Catalytic Album "ULTRA ELECTROMAGNETIC POP" became the "ALBUM OF THE YEAR". I was able to get two different original NU107 ROCK AWARDS CDs given to me by NU107 jocks back then which I will post in this blog in the future.

The 14th NU107 ROCK AWARDS was held last week NOVEMBER 30,2007 at The World Trade Center in Pasay City. This 2007 Rock Awards is as star-studded as it was from the previous Rock Awards.
