LOST AND FOUND

After the success of CHORUS GIRL in 1998 another Philippine Bootleg Compilation Series was made available here in MANILA. YUP! Another 1998 release was the "LOST AND FOUND" compilation series which also took the success of CHORUS GIRL. WOW!! It has been 10 years already!! I only bought 3 CDs from the series of which only one remains in my Vault. (NAARBOR yung dalawa!) I was able to borrow almost all the CD series from a friend of mine back in 1999. Well, for me it's another Blast From The Past compilations that all PINOY WAVERS would definitely remember during those times when 89DMZ's WAVE180 was losing it's magic .

Burn CDs were not yet the In-thing back then so buying these bootleg compilations would definitely satisfy everyone's crave for New Wave Music. Bands like A-HOUSE, THE PSYCHEDELIC FURS, O.M.D, NEW ORDER, THE PALE FOUNTAINS, WHEN IN ROME and a lot more makes this series a hit among PINOY WAVERS. The inner sleeves indicated that these were manufactured and distributed by LOST MUSIC LTD under DYNAMITE RECORDS. WOW! What a name for a record company. HE HE HE!!

Luckily, ERIC ALVIZ has the complete 9 "LOST AND FOUND" CD series so I asked him if I could feature it here on my Blog.

I just wanna greet our CHINESE brothers and sisters here in MANILA and AROUND THE GLOBE "KUNG HEI FAT CHOI!! Well, Chinese New Year is also celebrated here in the Philippines because we have a lot of Chinese Nationalities here in our Country and the so-called "TSINOYS" (Chinese-Pinoys). So expect a lot of Dragon Dances in all China Towns showing a great Chinese Tradition. A very famous Chinese delicasy is the "TIKOY" which is all around shopping malls, and supermarkets and of course in ONGPIN.

If I'm not mistaken this would probably be the first article of INSTANCE to be written in the NET. It was year 1986 when NITTO PALACIO, member of PINOY 80s band INTEGRATED CIRCUIT who originally sang the RIZAL UNDERGROUND 90s classic "ROLLERS ON HER HAIR" founded this Indie record label. It was called COUNTER CULTURE back then and was changed to INSTANCE. The last project if I'm not mistaken of NITTO was the 2004 ADVENT CALL Pinoy 80s Tribute Compilation CD entitled "LOCAL RECALL" under RECTONE MUSIC but still under INDEPENDENT STANCE(I assume that's the new INSTANCE). NITTO used to be an engineer for the Legendary Pinoy Punk Label TWISTED RED CROSS owned by TOMMY TANCHANCO who was also a former member of the PINOY LEGENDARY 80s Punk Band CHAOS. There were only two albums that INSTANCE released back in the 80s of which both of them got a Legendary status. Both albums were only released on Cassette Tape format.


INSTANCE first release was DEAN'S DECEMBER's 1986 "CHEMICAL WEDDING" under it's earlier name COUNTER CULTURE. NITTO saw DEAN'S DECEMBER performed their debut gig at KATRINA'S which was a Legendary 80s Pinoy Band Gig Site along Ermita so he decided to meet up with the guys and signed them up to this INDIE LABEL. The cassette tape album contains 7 classic tracks from the band which includes the anthemic "IT DOESN'T SNOW IN MANILA". I will feature the album here in my blog soon.


INSTANCE second release was The Legendary 80s PINOY compilation entitled "SUBTERRANEAN ROMANCE (THE RISE OF THE MARTIAL LAW BABIES)". It composed of 10 songs from 10 INSTANCE bands. Well. I consider this as the original "10 Of Another Kind". He He He! This was released December 1987 and it would be the Label's last release. Bands like ETHNIC FACES, SILOS, the label's baby DEAN'S DECEMBER and of course NITTO's band INTEGRATED CIRCUIT and 6 other Pinoy Indie Bands were included in this great compilation. I will also feature this album here in my blog soon.


In 2004 INDEPENDENT STANCE released ADVENT CALL's 80s Tribute Compilation CD entitled "LOCAL RECALL". So before RIVERMAYA did it last 2006 for me it was ADVENT CALL who really made the first 80s tribute. I will also feature this album here in my blog soon.

THE ADVENTURES

THE ADVENTURES was first introduced here in MANILA by WXB102 wayback late 1985 by playing the extended version of their classic "TWO RIVERS" which incidentally was #2 on the WXB TOP 102 MOST SEQUESTERED SONGS poll which was held last 2006. I also remembered the song hitting the #1 spot on the late evening XB Show "TOP 10 MOST SEQUESTERED SONGS" back in 1986. Their second Manila Hit would be "SEND MY HEART" which was taken also from their debut album "THEODORE AND FRIENDS". YUP!! All Pinoy Wavers have this album on their collection.

In 1988, NU107 introduced their second album "THE SEA OF LOVE" by playing "HEAVEN KNOWS WHICH WAY" which also bacame a hit on Manila New Wave Airwaves both on NU107 and DZBM POWER105 and was even included on the Philippine released compilation Vinyl "THE BEST OF NEW MUSIC 2". Then came "BROKEN LAND" which became an instant POWER105 classic because of the song's relation on CHEL D. "WHEN YOUR HEART WAS YOUNG" would be the last Manila Hit from this album and the band and Pinoy Wavers would definitely have also a copy it. HE HE HE!!

In 1989, THE ADVENTURES 3rd album "TRADING SECRETS WITH THE MOON" was introduced by DZBM POWER 105 by playing the song "YOUR GREATEST SHADE OF BLUE" but unlike the previous two albums, this album didn't really made a great impact here in Manila but still a relatively Pinoy Waver's collectors item.



THE ADVENTURES was the New Wave Band from Belfast who moved to London which was formed in 1984 headed by TERRY SHARPE on vocals who came from the late 70s group "THE STARJETS". The band released four albums and became famous here in Manila during the XB,BM, and NU days.

THE BEST 80's PARTY ALBUM

Well, 1998 was a year of 80s and New Wave compilation releases here in MANILA both Official and Bootleg. An Official Philippine release of Universal Records in 1998 was "THE BEST 80's PARTY ALBUM ...EVER!" compilation CD under Avex Trax. Three sequel CDs were also released on 1999 and 2000 namely" Volumes 2&3, and Non-Stop Party album". Basically, I didn't buy these four CDs back then because it really contains the most common 80's and New Wave songs , but when there was a Universal Record Sale last year and I saw these CDs for sale in a much more cheaper price then I decided to get the copies for listening purposes while driving ..... at least they're not burn CDs. He He He! YUP!! I still find it as a cool 80s compilation. The series contains music from Naked Eyes, Al Corley, Men At Work, Pointer Sisters, A Flock Of Seagulls, Human League, Camouflage, Yazoo....and many more to mention! Of course, there's also a New Wave flavor in it but it's just Shallow and not Deep. He He He!!

THE LOVER SPEAKS

THE LOVERS SPEAKS was the NEW WAVE duo of David Freeman on vocals , and Joseph Hughes who was mostly the composer and the arranger of the band. Every PINOY NEW WAVER like me would definitely have their "Self-titled" debut album either on Vinyl or on CD format. The band actually derived their name from a book entitled "A Lover's Discourse: Fragments" written by Roland Barthes back in 1985.THE LOVER SPEAKS was first introduced here in MANILA by DZBM POWER105 wayback late 1986 just before the station would hybernate momentarily into a Jazz Station and went back to New Wave on December 1987 to give NU107 a tough competition on Manila's NEW WAVE Airwaves. POWER105 first played their classic hit "NEVER TO FORGET YOU" in 1986 from their "Self-titled THE LOVER SPEAKS" album and became one of their so-called "POWER EXCLUSIVES" back then. I consider this as one of the Greatest Discoveries of POWER105 indeed. It was only in 1987 when the band's second Manila Hit "NO MORE I LOVE YOU'S" would also be played by none other than POWER105. Definitely this debut album has a lot of great songs in it. SULIT TALAGA!! Another personal favorites would be "TREMBLE DANCING" and "THIS CAN'T GO ON" which were also mainstays on 103.5 KLite's LITEWAVE.

Well, I just got a bonus when I was also able to purchase their Vinyl EP of "NO MORE I LOVE YOU'S which also became a hit on 89DMZ's WAVE180 back in 1995 since that was the year NU107 introduced the version of ANNIE LENNOX on Manila's airwaves.



ANNIE LENNOX version of "NO MORE I LOVE YOU'S"which was taken from her "MEDUSA" album made it big worldwide. Indeed it gave the song more exposure. "MEDUSA" also includes a remake of THE CLASH's "TRAIN IN VAIN" and BLUE NILE's "DOWNTOWN LIGHTS" which for me was also a very interesting album from Annie Lennox. It wouldn't be a surprise since THE LOVER SPEAKS has opened up before with THE EURYTHMICS on their 1986 "Revenge Tour" and DAVE STEWART himself was responsible for signing the band at A&M Records on their debut album back in 1985.


THE LOVER SPEAKS then recorded their second album in 1988 entitled "THE BIG LIE" which includes 9 new tracks but the band encountered problems releasing this material from A&M Records the same outfit that released their Self-titled debut album.

NOUVELLE VAGUE

Last year I was able to get a chance to hear the music of this French Cover Band "NOUVELLE VAGUE" when I visited MUSIC ONE. Their two CDs (Self-titled and Bande a Part) were made available here in MANILA around JUNE2007 then I was really surprised reading their tracklist so I decided to listen to both their albums via the "listening booth" of MUSIC ONE. Well, it's Bossa Nova indeed and last year there was a great upsurge of Bossa Nova Music here in Manila from Local and Foreign Acts. I bought both CDs and I find it as another Relaxing Pair of CDs that PINOY WAVERS could listen to. New Wave Music in a different arrangement that would perk up your listening pleasures especially if you're on the same Musical Genre as I am.

Nouvelle Vague is a French Act compose of Marc Collin and Olivier Libaux who resurrected classics from the New Wave Music era, and reinterpreted them in a Relaxing Bossa Nova style.

They released three albums, but as of writing only two of them are available here in Manila. Music from bands like MODERN ENGLISH, JOY DIVISION, XTC, ECHO AND THE BUNNYMEN, THE UNDERTONES, THE CLASH, DEPECHE MODE and many many more NEW WAVE acts included on this great compilation.

ROSANNA ROCES' TOP 5 New Wave Songs

Jennifer Adriano Molina popularly known as "ROSANNA ROCES" or "OSANG" in the PHILIPPINE ENTERTAINMENT ARENA would you believe is an avid NEW WAVE FAN? YUP!! This Sexy Filipina Actress have even confirmed that she was an avid XB listener back in the 80s. Whenever I mention "XB days" here in my Blog I refer to the good old days of XB circa 1985-1987 . A very controversial Sexy Actress indeed, some termed her as "THE SEX BOMB".

It was year 2004 when she was invited by 103.5 Klite DJ RON SOUTH to guest on his LITEWAVE "Your Ultimate New Wave Archive" show and she agreed to do so.

Unfortunately, I was unable to attend her LITEWAVE guesting but instead I listened over the Radio. It was indeed a great show wherein she was interviewed by DJ RON SOUTH about her Musical Interests and about NEW WAVE. She even mentioned having an I-Pod full of New Wave music. Huh? I-Pod was still expensive back then. Sosyal ang Lola ninyo!! He He He!

I guess the Highlight of the show was when she listed and mentioned her TOP 5 New Wave Songs of the era and DJ RON SOUTH played all 5 of them in ascending order from #5 to #1 Top Pick. I was able to jot it down. Well, here It is I'm going to post it on my Blog. That was her TOP 5 back then, and like most of us our personal favorites would change by time.

Well, I guess this would be my last post in this little BLOG of mine for the YEAR2007. It was indeed another great year for me. As we all say goodbye to 2007 and hello to 2008, do take time to count your blessings. It will fill your heart with GRACE and GRATITUDE. So to all VIEWERS of my BLOG "THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR SUPPORTING THIS LITTLE BLOG OF MINE!" So to those Lurkers ,well start signing in my GUEST BOOK so that I'll get to know you guys!! I think most of you guys have already a copy of U2's Classic Song "NEW YEARS DAY" so I don't need to upload the song anymore. The "U2 War" Vinyl Record was one of my first Imported Records I bought back in 1985. Here in MANILA, you have the option to buy either the Locally pressed Vinyl or the Imported ones. There were also a lot of New Wave Records which were played on both XB and BM that were never released locally but Pinoy Wavers like me got our own copies as Imports here in Vinyl Specialty Stores or Abroad. "NEW YEARS DAY" by U2 was included in their classic "WAR" album.

CHORUS GIRL

It was early 1998 when an 80s New Wave Philippine Bootleg CD Compilation entitled "CHORUS" was released here in Manila specifically in Greenhills Shopping Mall. The Alternative Rock Genre was already waning on Manila's airwaves by that time. The New Wave Program of 89DMZ "WAVE180" was very vital in bringing back New Wave in the mid90s and also gave the New Generation of Pinoy Music Enthusiasts a chance back then to really know about the musical genre called "NEW WAVE" . When the magic of WAVE180 was declining in 1998, New Wave Bootleg CD compilations started to be released here in Manila. The PINOY definition of NEW WAVE would be very much different from other countries but I still consider it as the best definition. (Tama ba mga Kabayans?) Then a sequel to it "CHORUS 2" was also released which I was able to buy(during those times it's still expensive) due to the great sales of the original one.



The "CHORUS" CD compilation then mutated into what Pinoy Wavers would definitely recall as "CHORUS GIRL". YUP! Burn CDs were not yet the trend during those times and so a lot of volumes were then produced. It includes music from B52s, Human League,Billy Idol, Bananarama and a lot more....... "too many to mention".

Thanks to buddy ERIC ALVIZ who shared the photo of his complete "CHORUS GIRL" CD series which he was able to collect and preserved. I, personally wasn't able to complete the series so I ask ERIC if I could feature his entire "CHORUS GIRL" collection in this Blog of mine. A total of 9 "CHORUS GIRL" CDs. This doesn't include the two sequels of "CHORUS".

A great fan of this CD compilation is DJ HILARY(LITEWAVE DJ for 8 months in 2005). She mentioned one time on air on her LITEWAVE show that her sister JANUARY ISAAC(Model/Actress who is well known in the Philippine Commercial as SURF's LUMEN) has influenced her on NEW WAVE by these said compilations. Hmmmmp!! Great Taste!!



BTW, by year 2000 this entire series which was already a bootleg was even bootlegged at a much cheaper price which was available at QUIAPO. HE HE HE!! Well, It doesn't stop there..... Last 2004 this series became an mp3 Bootleg CD. YUP!! The entire CHORUS GIRL series on one CD. Hmmmmp!! Only in the Philippines indeed!! Ayuuuuuzzzzz talaga Pinoy!! MABUHAY!!

UNDERGROUND RADIO CHRISTMAS SPECIALS

"R U Listening to U.R.?"- well, that's the famous station I.D. that I hear often whenever I get a chance to listen to the newly formatted RJ UNDERGROUND RADIO 105.9. This format came about early JULY of this year 2007 and I was just able to catch it last AUGUST. I find the playlist very interesting and as their DJs would say "We play CLASSIC ROCK, MODERN ROCK, and PINOY ROCK". Their radio dial LA 105.9 is the same FM dial which brought the PINOY ALTERNATIVE ROCK explosion of the early 90s but this time it is owned by Rajah Broadcasting Corporation which bought the station in 2006.

Last OCTOBER I was able to tune in to the early morning show of MICK ZINGER and MEMPHIS called "A.M. MAYHEM" before going to work and I find the show very cool. Great playlist indeed so if I have ample time in my schedule I listen to this morning show.

This December RJ Underground Radio 105.9 had these CHRISTMAS SPECIALS on their radio shows. YUP!! It was a great treat for their avid listeners. They started it out last DECEMBER 23 when HOWLIN DAVE's show "PINOY ROCK and RHYTHM" had their CHRISTMAS PINOY ROCK SPECIAL. I caught some of the show which was aired 12noon to 4pm and it was a refreshing rock show which showcased PINOY ROCK CHRISTMAS SONGS. Annng Galiiiing!! And last DECEMBER 24 and 25 RJ Underground Radion had a 48hour CHRISTMAS ROCK SPECIAL. Yup that's true 48hours of NON-STOP Rockin' Christmas tunes from all genres of rock. Of course, I was not a martyr to tune in for 48 hours because I was also busy for the Holidays. HE HE HE! Although, I caught some of the songs that was played during my spare time like THE PRETENDERS, THE KINKS, THE SCAVENGERS, etc. Well, that's CHRISTMAS for RAMON "RJ" JACINTO "owner of the station" and lead singer of the LEGENDARY PINOY 60s ROCK and ROLL BAND "R.J. and the RIOTS".

THE CHIPMUNKS CHRISTMAS

During the late 70s my DAD use to play his VINYL Record of "THE CHIPMUNKS GREATEST CHRISTMAS HITS" whenever it's CHRISTMAS season here in the Philippines. YUP!! This album brings back great memories of my youth and my DAD. Unfortunately, I can't find anymore his VINYL Record so I have to buy the CD version of it. I was surprised to know that there were actually two CHIPMUNKS Christmas CDs available in the record bars so I finally decided to purchase both of them. The other one is entitled "A CHIPMUNK CHRISTMAS" by "ALVIN AND THE CHIPMUNKS". But for me the album "THE CHIPMUNKS GREATEST CHRISTMAS HITS" is much better. Up to now, these songs never really get me bored and it's really fun listening to them. Since, Christmas is only a few days away, then I've been playing these songs frequently. The good old days of my Childhood and today's life fulfillment and enrichment combined while listening to these classic Christmas tunes sung by the most popular and mischievous ALVIN, the chubby THEODORE, and the intelectual SIMON(with eyeglasses) together known as THE CHIPMUNKS . Of course, there is DAVID SEVILLE who is their human father who takes care of this trio. I do hope you enjoy the two songs that I just uploaded for you guys who frequent my Blog. One in each album and they are my favorites!!

Here is another big NEWAVE/PUNK CHRISTMAS hit in MANILA!! RAMONES was first introduced here in MANILA by RJAM "THE ROCK OF MANILA" wayback 1978 by PINOR ROCK LEGENDARY DJ HOWLIN' DAVE and the rest of the RJ Radio People back then. RAMONES then became popular in 1985 when both WXB102 and DZBM POWER105 made "I WANNA BE SEDATED" a hit.

This great CHRISTMAS song was first played here in MANILA by DZBM POWER105 wayback 1989 when this was released. It was actually recorded on DECEMBER 1988 and was released MAY 1989 then It became a big hit on the 1989 CHRISTMAS SEASON for PINOY NEW WAVERS. It also became a regular Christmas playlist on RETRO and NEW WAVE radio shows here in MANILA so that's how popular and intense the song is for PINOY WAVERS.
