NME's C81 and C86 Tapes

It's my 13th and last blogpost for the month of November 2008 and I've noticed that this month I've broken my monthly blogpost number record for the past 15 months of my blog's existence. Wheew!! This time I'll feature these two Vintage 80s cassette tapes released by British magazine "NEW MUSICAL EXPRESS" back in 1981 and 1986 entitled "NME C81" and "NME C86". Well, I consider it to be at least NEW WAVE and POST PUNK and it depends upon your personal perspectives about it because these compilations featured Independent Musicians of the era. Some of the Artists here made it big on MANILA's NEW WAVE airwaves back in the 80s like AZTEC CAMERA, THE SOUP DRAGONS, and PRIMAL SCREAM just to name a few.

AZTEC CAMERA

SOUP DRAGONS

PRIMAL SCREAM

Some blogs have featured these tapes for downloads thus making it accessible to a lot of people who loves the music of the 80s. Manila's New Wave Programs like LITEWAVE and CLUB RETRO introduced some bands of this genre back in 2003-2006 like Another Sunny Day, Shop Assistants, The Wedding Present which never made it here in the Philippines during the 80s. Definitely, both are good compilations and perfect for PINOY NEW WAVERS who likes more obscure 80s music.

So why the title C81 and C86? Well, "C" stands for Cassette so "C81" means Cassette 81(since it was released back in January 1981), and "C86" means Cassette 86(since it was released back in June 1986). Well, It's not the usual C60, C90, and C120 tapes that we are all familiar of because these three refers to the running time in minutes which are 60,90, and 120 minutes in recording length. Whatever happen to cassette tapes? Huh? I was able to get both digitize copy back in 2005 and I find both compilations very interesting and great. It reflected the mood of the British Music Scene back on those days with highly melodic pop sounds which started and created it's own very unique musical genre.
